Add the following to disable GSP firmware with the proprietary nvidia-lts.
The open kernel modules unconditionally require GSP firmware. You cannot disable GSP when using the open kernel modules.
# /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf
options nvidia NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0
